It was a hot mid summer day in Taos yesterday(August, 6th 2011).
Since this old church is located next to the main highway, although it is easy to pass by to those who are not familiar because one can see only the backside of the churach from the highway, I always drop by and take a few pictures of it.
I believe this is a statue of San Franceco de Assiss.
With white cloud in the clear dark blue open sky of northen New Mexico, the church always get tremendous amount of sun light(summer or winter) and it always stands out brightly to my eye.
Impressive sideview of the church. Construction started in 1772 by Spanish mission of San Francisco de Asis and cmpleted by 1816. Typical New Mexico construction method was used with sun dried mud with straw "Adobe" bricks.

Favorite photographer, Ansel Adams took a shot of this church from the back side showing simple but massive connection to the mother ground to me.
Although this church is not inside of the Taos pueblo, Adams included this to the Taos Pueblo Album.
